Test run for yeerk drone vehicles: one

((from here))

Starscream's moving as soon as her feet hit the floor of her lab, weaving briskly in and out among the stations where her assistants and drones are working.

"This way," she tells the human host who's following her with the bucket containing his squad mates. "Through this door."

Silence falls over them as they enter her private sanctum, which is currently dominated by three tables in the middle of the room. On each of those tables is what looks like a body covered from the chest down with a sheet. One of them is a dead ringer for a certain human woman named Natasha Stanton. Another is a fair haired male, and the third is a dark skinned male with strong features.

"Set the bucket here." She turns to look at him, her expression saying that she expects to be obeyed.

Starscream smiles. "Extensively. I know all about your race. But I need individuals. If even the overlooked junior officer clings to the flawed ideals then there's little hope."

She takes another peek at the gearhead in the other room.

Three isn't on his chair any more. He's padding towards the door, with the intention of sneaking around a bit. Dallesh is still safely occupied, though.

"Wait." Five's frown is getting deeper by the second. "We're just the messengers. Your offer isn't to me, or my squad..."

Starscream chuckles inwardly as Three encounters a door that politely informs him that it's closed for routine maintenance.

Then she glances at Five with a cheerful smirk. "Of course."

Three investigates if he can fiddle with the control keys.

"Then what does it matter? You knew what we were before you made your offer: why change your mind now?"

"Messengers don't remain messengers forever." The ancient femme's voice is bland.

Five's expression settles as she thinks, considering Starscream with cautious interest. "Not if they prove they're worth more."

"Or if they find the tools and resilience to rise above the common lot."

Five nods slowly. It's listening. "And having a hand in their success can bring rewards."

"For those who need rewards." The smirk is smug now. Starscream hasn't felt that she's needed anything from anyone else in vorns.

"Of course." Five frowns slightly. "But you wouldn't give that opportunity to someone who agrees with their leaders?"
