Back from speaking with Telrim in the Nexus

Starscream strides into the room that she's set aside for the young yeerk's use, her steps sharp and precise as she focuses on her anger instead of the PINpoint that she just gave to the human woman she'd hoped to protect.

"You!" she says coldly to the creature, all trace of her usual friendly demeanor missing. "Have you been in contact with your superiors?"

She offers it a kadrona pellet as she lifts into the air. "What do you mean?"

"Exactly what I asked." The pellet is snarfled as only a little robot with a feeding tray can snarfle.

Starscream holds the exosuit to her chest and shifts to her roomier interplanetary shuttle mode. "There's no single answer to your question. The relationship depends on many factors."

The anger is gone completely now. Starscream is feeling that she failed Natasha and the Natasha drone, and she just wants to go home and spend some quiet time with Moonshadow.

Arrash settles where it finds itself, avoiding anything that looks like controls. That might be rude. "But usually. What course is it expected to follow?"

"At the most basic, that the student learns and the mentor teaches." She does a lazy spin and lifts above the clouds, her feelings mellow and sad as she absently formulates the speech she wishes she'd given Telrim.

“Beyond that. What… emotions… are supposed to be involved? What obligations? How important is the connection?”

[identity profile] screamsofstars.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"That varies greatly, and depends on the people involved." A bird gets an absent glance, and then she blinks her lights and levels out homeward bound. "For some it can deepen to the formation of family bonds; for others it's only a working arraignment. But the mentor is always expected to look out for the student, and the student is expected to give the mentor at least a little respect."

She falls silent for a moment. "But such situations aren't very common these days. Most young people are trained at institutions set up for the process."

"Don't they have teachers in these institutions?" Arrash is faintly puzzled.

"Yes." She passes another jet-former. "But you weren't asking about teachers."

Arrash watches the other jet curiously. "So you draw a distinction there."

"Not I, but the culture." More lazy spinning as she carries on a second conversation as well as giving directions to several drones and co-workers.

After its recent blackout, Arrash is disquieted by the motion. She's not going fast, though, and it's determined not to show weakness. "I suppose there are more important bonds."
